Because of this, it could be the case that the filmmakers wanted this continued tone to translate across all aspects of production, with CGI Clone troopers going against this. As evident by the first seven episodes of Andor, this show is much more grounded in style and tone than other Star Wars projects, more akin to a political thriller than a special-effects-driven Star Wars adventure. This reason could simply be because of the tone of the show. The other scene only has four Clone troopers, again meaning that CGI would be unnecessary as opposed to simply hiring four people to wear the suits.Īlthough, there is another reason that Andor could have opted for live-action Clone troopers. With Andor though, the Clone troopers in episode 7's flashbacks only appear in moderation, with one scene showing around 30-50 that can be portrayed by extras like the 501st fan group that was used in The Mandalorian's season 1 finale. The reason that Lucas opted for CGI Clones was that there were simply so many of them, with entire armies being portrayed onscreen at once. The main reason why Andor's Clone troopers are live-action instead of CGI like the prequels is due to their quantity. In this way, Andor episode 7's flashbacks and Clone Troopers are pivotal in enhancing and explaining the overarching story. This event not only sheds some important light on Andor's and the wider Star Wars timeline and societal context, but it also helps color Cassian's characterization, explaining key facets of his personality as a result of his upbringing and lived experience. Clem, in attempting to stop an uprising against the Imperial authority on Ferrix, was viewed as guilty by association, arrested by Imperial Clone troopers, and later hanged in the main square of Ferrix. All that was known about Clem was that he was hanged by the Empire at some point before 5BBY, with Andor episode 7 shedding some light on how this happened. While Maarva has been in Andor's present timeline of 5BBY played by Fiona Shaw, Clem was only briefly seen in the flashbacks of episodes 1-3 when the duo found Kassa, later renamed Cassian Andor, on Kenari. This sequence is important to Cassian's history with his adoptive family, Clem and Maarva Andor.
